Work at Home in Progress

Working on my sites

I’ve done a lot of work today with the information I got from AdSense Secrets. I should know over the next few days if I’m on the right track. It’s a lot of work, because there are some pages that really don’t go well with the change in format, and some of the changes need to be done manually for the best effect - changing the template is only a part of the process I am going through.

Still, if this works it will be well worth my time. I’m thinking of ways to incorporate these changes on other sites of mine - some aren’t really set up for these things to work well, but others should do just beautifully.

My next step is going to be adding content. Actually, that’s always a step I’m working on. I figure if I’m running my websites properly, I should constantly be adding to them.

I’m letting myself have this for the afternoon, but tonight it will be back to medical transcription. Until I get this really paying off, that has to be the routine. I feel confident that I am getting closer all the time to my goals.

Wish me luck!

Gage’s CT scan has finally been scheduled!

I feel so relieved right now. Waiting to get the insurance mess cleared up has been so stressful, but now things are looking up. Gage’s CT scan will be on April 20. It’s a bit of a scary prospect, as they will have to use anesthesia, but this is the next step towards fixing his scaphocephaly.

I’m also realizing how lucky I am in that there are experienced doctors in my area. Apparently there are very few teams that do this kind of surgery, so having a team in the city where I live is marvelous and a huge savings financially.

Now I can focus with a somewhat clearer head on the things I need to get done… business, taxes, medical transcription… although I just about want to laugh with relief that progress is finally being made.

Tomorrow might be a fun day. We have relatives coming over from Denmark. They’re near my age so it should be fun to meet them. We were going to clean the apartment and do taxes, but now we’re thinking about joining them at Sea World instead. Be a nice break from all the stress. Then again, since we’re also planning on going to the Renaissance Faire on Saturday, we know we’ll be getting a break anyhow.

Either way, I’m feeling good today, for the first time since the insurance mess became clear.

AdSense testing

I got an invitation from the author of Google AdSense Secrets, an ebook that promises to help you increase your AdSense income to take a look at it and offer it to my visitors. So that’s what I’m doing. I read it last night, and started a minor implementation on some of my pages. I’ll be tracking how it goes. I have several more changes to make yet, but time is always an issue.

I spent a good bit of time today modifying my forums to be friendlier to the search engines. I’ve been putting that off for quite a while now, and just got tired of not having it done. Had a few problems when I tried to do the full mod, including some work in mod rewrite, so I left it at the basic modification.

I’m mostly working off some frustration. We’re still trying to get things cleared up on the insurance so Gage can have his referrals. Nothing yet.

With everything going on, I decided to go ahead and get back to some medical transcription. It’s not my favorite thing in the world, but it brings in good money and keeps me busy. Of course, if this AdSense ebook works out, I won’t need the transcription anymore.

Insurance can be so frustrating!

We’re having a miserable time getting Gage’s referrals for the tests he needs so that we can get his surgery scheduled. It’s very frustrating having to wait until the doctor has our insurance information, as he cannot make the referrals until then, yet this is an urgent matter. Human resources for the company Brent works for has been of no help so far, because they’re in the middle of Open Enrollment, making this the absolute worst time to need help from them. Not that they’ve been of any assistance at any time anyhow. We’ve had more problems with this job not being quite honest with us… it’s very frustrating to not be able to trust an employer.

I’m keeping a sharp eye on the mail, so that when our insurance cards come I can take Gage’s straight to the doctor’s office to help them. But it can take up to two weeks for them to arrive, and we were originally supposed to have things going this week. I’m really furious with the situation - after all, we’re talking about my son’s health and future here.

I’m trying to keep busy, of course, since there is very, very little I can do. I’m transcribing a bit again, as well as doing website work. Anything to keep busy. Fortunately, my website income is up, so if it continues, I might be able to quit medical transcription around the time Gage is likely to have his surgery. That would be ideal, since it would give me more time to cope with his recovery and followup appointments.

I’m getting very tired of dealing with all these problems, but I know once they’re solved I will feel a lot better and quickly forget the stress. But until then I’m going slightly nuts.
