Work at Home in Progress

Time keeps flying

I can’t believe the end of June is almost here. Only a little more than two weeks to go before we move and we still don’t know for 100% where we’re going to live. I’ve called the folks we’d like to rent from to make sure they got our application and find out how long it will take to get an answer, because with just over 2 weeks before we have to move, we really need to know now!

Have you tried Google Sitemap yet? I’m trying it out right now. It should be interesting to see how well it does or does not work. The DigitalPoint keyword tracker shows that Google currently only lists 526 pages on my site, so hopefully this will increase that count soon. Some people say they’ve had negative results from using this, but I suspect there were other factors involved. If nothing else, I’ll be getting a lot more pages spidered. Considering that Yahoo lists 2380 pages in my site, Google has plenty of work to do just to catch up.

I’m procrastinating, of course, on what I should be doing, which is getting the nonessentials packed. There are plenty of things I know I can pack now – pictures, decorations, books… it’s just hard to get started.

Fun with the Kids

I’ve added a new section with ideas for fun things to do with your kids. These include educational activities, games and more. I’m sure it will continue to grow over time.

I’ve also added links to online stores with what I think are interesting items. Some have great prices, others focus more on high quality. It’s kind of a new area for me, so we’ll see how this goes.

It’s been more challenging than I planned on to get this one done. Working on this project while dealing with all the doctor’s appointments for Gage and searching for a new place to live have really limited my ability to get new things done. But I had a lot of fun working on it, and I still have ideas that I will add to it over time, no doubt.

Free time? What's that?

I’ve been a little too busy lately to update this blog regularly. Life has really been hectic. Let’s see… there’s all of Gage’s doctor’s appointments, 2-3 of them a week right now. We got a notice on our front door on the 12th that we have 30 days to move because the owner of the condo we’re renting in is letting his daughter move in. I’m watching my niece this summer.

Such is the life of the stay at home mother. In a few weeks swimming lessons will start, but the doctor’s appointments will cut down. Hopefully we’ll get moved soon, although we still haven’t settled on the place.

I am still working hard on my home business, and that sometimes means I forget the little things like updating this blog. Working at home is not easy, but I love it. Wouldn’t trade my life for anything.

Moving AGAIN!

No, not moving this site. We’re moving. I came home yesterday to a 30 days to vacate notice on my door. It seems the owner of this condo wants to move back in. So we’re out.

This could have been worse. It was supposed to have been given on June 1; in other words, just after Gage’s surgery. It’s only been 3 weeks now, but it is much better.

This will make the usual work at home balance more interesting again, if only for a month or so, depending on how fast we unpack.

Helmet pic up

Ok, so I couldn’t wait any longer. I’ve updated the scaphocephaly section with information about Gage’s helmet and added a picture of him in his helmet. I’ll add more after it’s decorated.

Gage has his helmet

What can I say? He looks cute. That’s babies for you. They look cute almost no matter what. You can see a picture now if you go to my discussion boards and look for any post by me – it’s my avatar right now. I’ll be posting pictures eventually with the other scaphocephaly pictures.

We’re going to be decorating the helmet. Most likely, it will be his handprints on the front, Ariel’s on the back, but we aren’t 100% certain. We just know we want it to be representative of when this happened. My other thought was to put his milestones on it as they happened, for example, the day he got the helmet, day he rolls over, sits up, etc. But I do know I’ll be painting it some color other than white first, since we know we don’t want it to be too plain.

It’s been interesting getting things done. Ariel needs lots of attention. In many ways this has been harder on her than anyone else. It only turned her world upside down, after all, since Gage’s birth meant suddenly she wasn’t an only child, and then Gage needed the surgery. But I think things will keep getting better for her as she gets used to everything. Of course, it will really help when Gage is old enough for her to play with a little more.

I’ve taken a lot more time away from my business for her. I get most of my work done at night now, and only a very little during the day. I wish I could get more done, but I know my priorities. My kids are the reason I’m at home, after all. I’ve had to remind myself of that a time or two, when I’ve really wanted to get something else done, but mostly I’m pretty good about keeping my priorities straight.
