What can I say? He looks cute. That’s babies for you. They look cute almost no matter what. You can see a picture now if you go to my discussion boards and look for any post by me - it’s my avatar right now. I’ll be posting pictures eventually with the other scaphocephaly pictures.
We’re going to be decorating the helmet. Most likely, it will be his handprints on the front, Ariel’s on the back, but we aren’t 100% certain. We just know we want it to be representative of when this happened. My other thought was to put his milestones on it as they happened, for example, the day he got the helmet, day he rolls over, sits up, etc. But I do know I’ll be painting it some color other than white first, since we know we don’t want it to be too plain.
It’s been interesting getting things done. Ariel needs lots of attention. In many ways this has been harder on her than anyone else. It only turned her world upside down, after all, since Gage’s birth meant suddenly she wasn’t an only child, and then Gage needed the surgery. But I think things will keep getting better for her as she gets used to everything. Of course, it will really help when Gage is old enough for her to play with a little more.
I’ve taken a lot more time away from my business for her. I get most of my work done at night now, and only a very little during the day. I wish I could get more done, but I know my priorities. My kids are the reason I’m at home, after all. I’ve had to remind myself of that a time or two, when I’ve really wanted to get something else done, but mostly I’m pretty good about keeping my priorities straight.

I was reading some of the entries on this site because I am a stay at home mom. Working outside the home would be difficult for me because my two youngest are special needs…. I thought that moms on this site would have no idea what it is like to have numerous doctors visits, calls from the school, ARD meetings (for special ed). Then i saw the pictures of Gage in his helmet. I know that at least one person on this site understands some of what my life is like. I saw this website advertised in a magazine article in the September issue of LIVING.
So glad to meet you! Gage is doing very well now, although we’re waiting for him to start talking now… 18 months old and only 3 words so far. Doctor said to wait another 3 months, and if he’s still not really talking, it’ll be time to start evaluating.
We know he hears, as he obeys us very well, and he’s also good at communicating his wants nonverbally.
I’m surprised to hear that this site was in LIVING… it’s not a magazine I’m familiar with. Guess I’d better take a look. Always fun to see what people say about me!
