The title should give you a clue about what we aren’t quite certain we have here tonight. If I understood the news report right, yes, we do have clean water here, but on the other hand, with E. Coli being found in the water supply for people who live not that many miles away, would you want to take a chance, even with your own area being excluded from the published list?

My husband and I decided we’d rather not take that chance, so we’re on boiled or bottled water right now. From the news reports, it sounds like we are not on the list, but I’d rather not take that gamble.

They’re pretty serious about the water problem. The people in the effected areas have been told to not even brush their teeth without boiling the water first.

The one question that comes to my mind is how careful are they being about telling people about this. I heard because my sister called to tell me about the report she’d seen on the news, and she thought my area was included. Now, if they’re relying on people catching this report on the news, how many are going to miss it?

We had some bottled water here already, as a part of our emergency kit. However, my husband decided to go ahead and get more, just to be sure. If it is a problem here, better to have the extra.

One of the things that gets me about this, though, is that apparently the first hint came on Tuesday, when tests showed coliform in the water. Why has nothing been said before, or did I just miss it? Does it take that long to test for E. Coli? I honestly don’t know the answer, I just find it interesting.

It was a bit of a comical moment here. We were having dinner when my sister called to tell me, and since she thought Poway was included, I had my husband take the water the kids had been drinking. So what does he do but take a drink as he waits to find out why I wanted him to take the water away? I quickly got online to get a clearer explanation of what was up, and was glad to see my area not on the list.

Obviously, I’m quite relieved that there probably is not a problem in my water supply, but I’m still going to keep a good eye on this story. I have no idea how interconnected the water supplies are, and I’d hate to find out later that the problem was more widespread than initially thought. I don’t mind a bit of harmless paranoia.
