I’ve really got the mechanics going on this one. Best guess is the computer, in which case we may well be getting rid of the car. Just not in the budget to do an expensive repair. Painful but true.
No replacement either. We’d be going down to one car for the family. Ouch.
We thought it was just low transmission fluid at first, as there was a leak. But fixing that hasn’t taken care of the problem.
The car is going to it’s third repair shop on Monday morning. First we had taken it to my usual repair shop, Robbie’s. They don’t do more than basic transmission work so when it became clear that they couldn’t fix it they sent it over to the neighboring transmission shop.
The tranmission shop worked for three days. Because the problem is intermittent they had to keep it a couple nights. Every time the engine warmed up the problem stops happening.
They thought it was a solenoid problem and replaced it.
Nope. The problem kept happening. So they told me that it was an electrical problem beyond their abilities. So now they’re taking the car Monday morning to the electrical shop.
What completely floored me was when the transmission shop said that they weren’t charging me since they hadn’t fixed it. If you’re in the area, it’s Poway Transmissions and how can I not recommend so honest a shop???
Won’t be so lucky with the electrical shop as they charge for the diagnosis, at least $100. I’m really dreading this diagnosis, waiting to see how much over budget this monster’s going to be. Nope, not feeling optimistic at all about keeping this car past Monday. Computer’s an expensive part and apparently the most likely problem right now.
