Gage just continues to amaze me a lot of ways. I don’t know why he prefers not to talk, but the more I watch him, the stronger I feel that it’s almost more a choice than anything else.

Today, for example, when I was putting him down for his nap he indicated that he wanted me to rock him first. This is a part of the routine, so no surprise.

As I rocked him, he started singing softly. Yes, he sings. He just doesn’t know the words. Then he looked up at me and put one hand to the side of my mouth and grunted at me. So I asked if he wanted me to sing. He said “Uh-huh” which is one of the few words we do have.

So I start singing lullabies. Try to get up after a few to put him to bed. “Uh-uh!” as he shakes his head. So I gave him one more song and then put him to bed.

He started crying and pointing to my mouth. So I sang one last time and he quieted and let me leave the room.

What can I say? He does communicate very well! Should be interesting to see what happens when he decides to start talking. He acts all shy when he does use words, and I think that’s a big part of why he doesn’t talk much yet.
