I didn't worry about the clothes, anyhow. I do recommend having the kids play with it on a tile floor, because my daughter tended to just drop bits of it all over the floor, and I wouldn't want to have to deal with that on a carpet.Borax is used in laundry, after all, and Elmer's glue comes off things pretty easily, so once the food coloring is well mixed in there shouldn't be any problems.
