As I’m sure you can imagine, this is a pretty incessant thing around the San Diego area. Things are really pretty serious around the county, and it’s not even sure what areas are safe or for how long.
The Santa Ana winds have been very, very strong. Sometimes up to hurricane force gusts is what I’ve heard. As you can imagine, this is seriously hampering the firefighting efforts.
They evacuated the hospital and nursing homes in my area, and some homes in Rancho Bernardo have burned. Lots of homes in other areas too.
News is happening really fast. I keep pausing in my typing to listen. They’re talking about another flareup in Ramona.
It’s really hard to be precise because the news is rarely precise. They often aren’t using very good maps, although some have been smart and given Thomas Guide coordinates, and another used Google Maps. All that works much better than the standard news graphics.
This fire is truly astounding and quite frankly frightening. It’s looking worse than the Cedar fire 4 years ago. Still no way to get any air support for the firefighters, so all they can do is try to protect what they can. No way to control it.
