I have a big section on medical transcription here that covers some of your options for getting into medical transcription. You will need to take courses through a reputable program. No legitimate companies hire without quality training and/or experience. The best schools have good enough reputations that some employers will hire their new graduates. Without that it's tough, as many companies want 2 years' experience.

Career Step is the most affordable of the options, although you do need to take at least their Gold level course. My own former employer wouldn't hire people who didn't take at least that level, as I understand it.

If you don't want to spend the money learning medical transcription, a few general transcription companies do hire people without experience. You have to pass an online test to show you can do the work, of course. I have general transcription companies listed here and Tigerfish is one I know of that has the online test.

I know what you mean about going stir crazy. My kids are wonderful but focusing on them alone would be too much for me. But do remember that working at home with a baby is hard. Nice thing about medical transcription is that you can generally set your own schedule, but they do prefer that you keep reasonably to it. As your baby settles into a schedule things do get better, though.

I hope this gives you some information to go through. Let me know if you have more questions I can help you with.

I heard about medical transcription to work from home. Do you have any information you can pass on. I'm a new mom with a 7 weeks old and my husband would really like me not to go back to work because he strongly feels that leaving him at daycare won't be as good as our own home but I'm concerned that I will go stir crazy not doing other things so any direction would be great.

Running this website is the main one. Some other sites that bring in less. Affiliate marketing, that kind of thing.

I used to also do medical transcription as a job. It was a pretty good one, but I like the flexibility and creativity of running my sites far more.

I do that too. It's long been a basic rule of mine that if the kids need a story, I stop and read to them. It's fun and so good for them.

Sounds like our sons are on the same wavelength! I´ve been getting a few very early mornings in myself.

I would have to add the ability to simply stop and read stories to your kids. I love it when my toddler comes in with an armload of books and I can just turn away from my work, scoop him up and read with him.
