Unfortunately I know exactly how you feel - in 2006 my husband lost his job -twice - in one year. After 23 years of straight employment it was indeed a shock. My first and best piece of advice is - don't panic! I tried to turn it into a learning experience. I read everything I could on budgeting, etc. and learned a lot and use many of those ideas and tips still even though my husband is now employed.

Oh no! I know exactly how that feels. You sound very positive about the situation which is very good. I hope your husband finds something right away and looks at all of his options.

He has some severance pay as well as back vacation pay. That will certainly give us some time, and yes, I will be having him look into unemployment pay.

OUCH! Ugh. Are temporary work (through a temp agency) or unemployment wages (due to the layoff) an option? I know sometimes UE can take a while to start but it's better than nothing coming in.

Besides, Murphy's Law says that by the time it kicks in, you usually have a new job. *wink* So maybe it's a way to make that pop up...at least that's what has happened to me in the past. LOL

I'll be hoping for the best for you guys. Good luck!!!
