After 23 years of straight employment it was indeed a shock. My first and best piece of advice is - don't panic! I tried to turn it into a learning experience. I read everything I could on budgeting, etc. and learned a lot and use many of those ideas and tips still even though my husband is now employed. Ugh. Are temporary work (through a temp agency) or unemployment wages (due to the layoff) an option? I know sometimes UE can take a while to start but it's better than nothing coming in.Besides, Murphy's Law says that by the time it kicks in, you usually have a new job. *wink* So maybe it's a way to make that pop up...at least that's what has happened to me in the past.
