I'm the quiet sort by nature. And if I can't think of something better than "good post" or similar, I'm keeping my thoughts to myself. You have to treat other people's blogs as you want yours to be treated, and that means sharing quality. I have many blogs that I subscribe to, and I read and comment on those more or less whenever they post. I also visit and comment on any blogger who visits me. Occasionally I'll click through interesting links on Twitter, or visit other bloggers who are commenting on blogs I frequent. I especially like CommentLuv for this, because certain posts will catch my eye.I'm not commenting just as a self-promotion tool, I'm commenting because I like to. I enjoy reading what other people write, and I like to get in on the conversation. It's a community building exercise, first and foremost. I think that blogging at its best is about community above all. It just happens to have the positive side effect of building my own following, especially of like-minded people, but I would do it even if that weren't the case. I do a lot of commenting.
