Leaving Your Child in the Car?

Have you read about the woman in Arizona who left her 2 year old in her car as she went to shop, telling the valet not to tell anyone? So glad he had the sense to get some advice and then call the police.

Almost more amazing than this story are the comments on it. There are some people who don’t see anything wrong with it or insist that all moms do it, equating going out to check the mail with what this woman did. Don’t know about you, but I see a big difference between leaving my child sleeping in a car with a valet, a complete stranger to keep an eye on him or her and stepping into my front yard to get mail, still within earshot.

Worse is that while leaving the child she took her little dog. Guess the dog’s more important.

No responsible parent these days is going to leave their child in the car in a parking lot, valet or no. It’s just ridiculous. Yes, odds are nothing would happen, but what if something did? No matter how much the odds are in favor of the child’s safety, there’s still that chance. Could you live with it if you were wrong?

It’s hard to say which annoys me more, the woman who did it or the people who don’t see anything wrong with it. What do you think?
