It's hot outside! If you have a pool, it's time to supervise the kids as they play in the water. Some games can be played at public pools (crowds and rules permitting, of course) or even in the ocean, but it's always easiest if everyone in the pool is involved in the game.
Playing in the pools is a great way to cool off but it isn't the only way. If you don't have a pool, turn on the sprinkler and let the kids run through. Be careful about what games are allowed, however, as kids can slip and fall or trip over the sprinkler. Any time your kids are playing around water, running needs to be strictly limited.
Throw coins into the pool for the kids to dive for. You can vary which depth of water you throw the coins into by the skill of the children involved. You can also buy toys that sink in the water, but coins are much more challenging to pick up.
One person is It. Whenever they tag someone, that person is frozen until another player unfreezes them by swimming between their legs. Play until everyone is frozen.
Probably the classic backyard pool game!
The It must keep their eyes closed and shouts "Marco". The other players must shout "Polo" in return, so that the It has a chance to figure out where they are. Of course, if they're under water and can't hear they don't have to respond. The first person the It tags becomes It.
Of course, there are fun things to do without a swimming pool or sprinklers. Everyone loves Slip and Slides. Water guns and Super Soakers are loads of fun.
