I don't think my sister minded too much suddenly having to make her own plans, although there's no doubt it was quite the surprise. Apparently it was enough to worry my dad, though. He called to find out if Gage was okay, so I had to explain that for babies, roseola is a minor illness. (read more)

Paying Attention to Your Marriage and Workout Burnout
The Editor's Desk - From Beneath the Clutter
Wow, I'm tired! We took a quick trip to Sacramento this weekend to attend a family pre-holiday dinner. It's a tradition on my mom's side of the family. It allows us all to get together at a time when there's no pressure from inlaws to be at their homes. I get to see relatives that I see very rarely. (read more)

Does Your Marriage Suffer from an Attention Shortage?
Years ago when I was working in a mental health center, I served on a committee that was redesigning the communications systems. In one meeting, a committee member named Susan said, "The receptionists sound frantic when they answer the phone. They need to learn to give each caller their complete attention, even when they're multi-tasking." (read more)

Chaos and the affiliate mindset
The Editor's Desk - From Beneath the Clutter
Well, here we go again. The surgery my brother-in-law was scheduled for last week was rescheduled at just about the last minute (he was in the gown they were going to have him wear for the surgery) for this week on Wednesday. So I get to have the kids again. Four kids under four at my house for the next couple days. Yes, I will be getting very tired. They'd better not get cancelled again! My poor brother-in-law might get stuck in the hospital at Thanksgiving if that happens!

Chaos Doesn’t Mean You Can’t Get Things Done!
Life is often hectic for stay at home parents. It gets more so when you work from home. There’s the kids to care for, the house to keep at least reasonably clean and meals to prepare, all while getting your job or business taken care of. It’s not the easy life many people think it is.

Home Office Organization and Survival Tips
The Editor's Desk - From Beneath the Clutter
Halloween was great! I hope you had a good day too. I posted pictures of the kids in their costumes at http://www.homewiththekids.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3902 if you want to see them. Ariel had a blast trick or treating - it was her second year doing so, but last year she only went to six or so houses. This year? Two and a half blocks, both sides of the street! (read more)

Organizing Your Home Office
It can be a real challenge as a work at home parent to maintain an organized home office. Many times, the office or desktop is the last of our worries as we strive to raise our children, support our spouses and run our home-based business. However, keeping up with the clutter and chaos of your office may be just what you need to get you in a working mindset and help you to be more efficient while working. (read more)

Your Home-Based Business — 5 Keys for Survival
With the recent downturn in the economy, boomers taking early retirement, the plethora of "business opportunities”, or folks being fed up working for "corporate America," the entrepreneurial spirit, the urge to "work from home” is alive and well. For most home-based workers, the advantages generally outweigh the disadvantages — no commute, having more quality time with one’s family, being in control of one’s life and time, no boss to deal with — among others. This is the good news. (read more)
