What Happened to Playtime?
The Editor's Desk - From Beneath the Clutter
I'm getting ready to take a trip in about a week and a half. Won't be entirely out of touch, but I'll have to have one of my sisters keep an eye on the day to day things here.

What happened to Playtime?
A disturbing trend in our modern society is the way we, as parents, turn our children's' days into regimented routines of organized, adult-led extracurricular activities like volleyball practice, gymnastics class, tee-ball games, and dance recitals along with other time consuming functions and commitments. We do all of this at the expense of free play, discovery and exploration, relaxing downtime, and far too-often, family meals. Long gone, it would seem, are the days of homework followed by ample free time (to be silly kids!), all before a sit down family dinner. It doesn't really have to be that way.

See you next week. I'll make time while I pack like crazy for my vacation!

Family Dinners
The Editor's Desk - From Beneath the Clutter
I hope you all had a great 4th of July. We had lots of fun. Went to my mother's for a barbeque dinner, then off to fireworks. Gage was quite impressed. Ariel had been begging to see fireworks for about a month, so let's just say she was enthusiastic and wants to know when we're going to see more fireworks.

Family Fun at Dinnertime
Even as a stay at home parent it’s often difficult to find time to have meals as a family. Everyone has places to rush off to. You might have kids eating at different times due to their various activities or your husband coming home just a little too late to eat with the rest of the family.
