Well, things are going a bit better now, but I'm still not fully recovered from last week. And, just to keep me on my toes, Ariel is thinking hard about potty training. She's been on and off the potty several times today. Hasn't done anything yet, but this is her own idea, so I figure it should happen any time now. I just hope it's established enough by the time we move that the move doesn't cause her to go back on it. I really want her trained before this baby comes! Ariel has this tendency to just suddenly start doing things on her own, so if she does potty train now, it will not be too much of a surprise. More of a delight.
For those of you wondering about the results of the survey... I did not get many responses, but those I did receive tended to agree with me on splitting this newsletter into two; one home business and one stay-at-home/work-at-home. I'm not splitting immediately; all these things that have come up about moving along with still trying to get on track after losing so many files has delayed it, probably by several weeks. But I will announce it when it comes.

Isn't that what they want you to think? Working at home, it's not really work. You turn on the computer for 10 minutes then you're done. Who are they kidding?
Working at home, whether in a job or a home business, is far from easy. You'll work long hours in most cases. Those 10 minutes a day claims bear no relation to the real world of working at home for the vast majority of us. And for those who do only work a short time each day, that comes after years of working hard to get a business on autopilot. You just don't start out that way.
If you have kids, some days you'll be lucky to get 10 quiet minutes at a time at the computer. There are meals to prepare, the house to clean, games to play and activities with your children. You're not just going to drop them in front of the TV after all, or you wouldn't have decided to be an at-home parent.
The reality of working at home is that it is hard. Being a stay at home parent has been compared to being a full time job just by itself, so if you have an at-home job or home business, you can add that on, and suddenly you're working a full time and a part (or full) time job on top of everything. Nothing easy about it.
The lucky moms are the ones whose friends and families understand that they work hard. Far more common are the ones who think not only that you don't do anything when you work at home, you don't make any money either. No proof is sufficient in some cases to show them that yes, it is possible, and no, you aren't just lounging on the sofa watching soap operas.
But let's be honest with ourselves. Lack of easy money and (often) sleep aside, would you trade your lifestyle with anyone with a traditional, outside the home job. Probably not. Where else can you get the benefits you receive as an at-home parent? I don't mean things like medical insurance, which are difficult to come by in the stay at home world, I mean the time with your family, being there when your children get sick or learn something new. Is there anything that beats that in any other kind of work? For many of us, no. You accept the challenges of working at home or running a home business because to you it's worth the long days, the social isolation and dealing with people who just cannot understand what you do. Your children have you there when they need you, and that is enough.

The home based business that I have chosen as my career is in the Personal Care Industry. I have found that while making my living in the world of skin care, cosmetics and health that I am faced with choices and temptations that will greatly affect my business and its potential growth. The business that I have you can earn income through these different methods. I earn income through teaching lessons, recruiting and marketing on an offline using a sampling program and catalog orders.
I have found that due to the business that I am in that family members and friends feel that they are entitled to FREE products or special discounts just because they are my friends or I am a part of their family.
At first this was tempting to me after all I did not want to offend them or hurt their feelings due to the fact that I had special relationships with these people and I just about did as they asked but through much thought and the guidance of a wonderful mentor, I felt my best choice was to tell them NO, I am sorry I can not do this for you.
You see although, they are my family and friends I am offering them something that they could not receive anywhere else, I am offering them me and with me they get special customer service, the best products in personal care industry on the market available today! And under no circumstances am I willing to devalue myself, services or products.
Here are some of my suggestions for overcoming this issue.
When I am asked for FREE Products: I suggest them to hostess a lesson for me not only will they receive a FREE Product Gift for being a hostess, they can earn several other Free Products as well through hostess points earned for having a lesson and special discounts on various products that I am certain that they would enjoy.
When I am asked for DISCOUNTS on products: I suggest to them that they take my catalogs and get orders for me and give the discount according to the amount of orders received.
Another excellent method that is used is to ask for referrals and offer a small amount off the product for the referrals just make sure the amount of discount or product matches the amount of referrals received in other words the referrals made a purchase or joined your team.
And my final suggestion is if they still insist that they want more and what I am offering them is not enough. I suggest that they join my team.
I know that this can be an extremely sensitive issue, and I am sure that you have been faced with this issue on more occasions than you personally care to remember but if you stop and think about it and ask yourself this question, I am certain that you will arrive at the same conclusions that I did and tell your family and friends NO as well.
Ask yourself would I go into my family members or friends place of business and ask them for FREE products or Discounts just because they know me? I am sure that you would not, and it is not fair for them to try and take advantage of you in this way.
My only exception in this area is I have made is the exception for my parents. They are in their seventys and extremely special to me, they have put up with me for all of these years and the least I can do for them is respect, love and pamper them as much as I possibly can to make them as comfortable as possible in their Golden Years.
