Searching Craigslist for Work at Home Jobs

Craigslist is a great resource for finding work at home jobs that many people new to working at home are not aware of. The catch is that every posting is unscreened, so it is also a great place for scams.

Craigslist is not easily searched when it comes down to things such as work at home jobs where location doesn’t matter. It is divided into cities, but there is no way to search all cities at once from the Craigslist site. There had been a website which allowed users to do this, but Craigslist didn’t like the demand on their servers and banned it.

Even though the jobs are by city, you don’t have to limit yourself to where you live. However, many of the jobs will be for people who live in a particular area. For that reason, you may want to focus on the feeds for your area. Doing so will cause you to miss out on some opportunities most likely, so decide how much information you care to deal with.

There are a few ways you can make Craigslist searches easier for yourself, depending on which you find most convenient. Perhaps the most basic is to do a search on each city’ jobs section for telecommute jobs and bookmark that search in a special file, so all you have to do in the future is go to each bookmark to see what has been added.

If that doesn’t work for you, try the RSS feed. Once again, you’ll have to do each search city by city, but then you click the RSS button at the bottom of the page to get the location of the feed, then add it to wherever you read your RSS feeds. If you aren’t familiar with RSS, feeds are very easy to add to a My Yahoo page – in fact, there is a link right beneath the RSS link to do just that. One click and the feed is on your page. For other readers you will have to copy and paste the RSS URL into the reader.

The RSS feed is a very convenient way to keep track, as all you have to do is scan the feed for anything new. You can decide on how many new items to show, which may make for a long page to scan, but will save you needing to click through to check for more new postings than show on your page.

The final alternative is to subscribe by email. You might get way too much email; however, it’s a fast way to get the newest listings.

As I said above, you do have to be particularly careful for scams. Just keep in mind the usual rules about not paying for a work at home job and be careful about anything that seems too good to be true.
