Shop Online and Save!

You've seen all the online stores, probably bought a few things, but is it really worth it? There's the trouble of waiting for shipping, not to mention the cost. You can't examine your purchase first, so it's hard to know if it's exactly what you want. What about customer service? Is it really worth it to shop online?

In some cases, it most certainly is! You can save money over what traditional stores charge in many cases, often even including the shipping costs. The best products to buy are items where you know what you will be getting.

Let's take a look at this example. Most families need contact lenses for one or more members of their family. Disposable contact lenses are extremely popular right now. If we take a look at 1-800 CONTACTS, we see several key benefits:

As you can see, many of the disadvantages of online shopping do not exist with this company. No shipping charges, good return policy, and agents to talk to… all you have to do is wait for your order to arrive. You might have to do that at your local store too. This is an excellent product to order online.

But how do you determine what makes a good company to order from? There are several key areas to consider:

  1. Reputation - Have you heard about the company and was the information positive and reliable? There are many scams on the internet that you need to watch out for. Look for valid contact information on any sites you make a purchase from, such as telephone number and address.
  2. Prices - Are you saving money versus going to your local store?
  3. Shipping costs - If these are high, you lose any benefit you get from lower prices, and you have to wait to get your merchandise to boot.
  4. Inventory - This is a tough one in many cases, because you won't know the answer. If the company is constantly out of stock of what you want, will it really be worth the wait?
  5. Customer service - If you have a problem with your order, how easily will you be able to reach the company? Can you reach them by phone or mail, or only by email? Do they answer their emails in a timely fashion?
  6. Policies - If you aren't satisfied, can you return the merchandise? Full refund or merchandise credit only?

Use common sense, a touch of caution, and ask around when in doubt. Don't be afraid to contact a company before you've even made a purchase - it may tell you a lot about them.
