It is very important to manage your time well when you work at home, but it is also very easy to let it cause an excessive amount of stress when you focus too much on the limitations. Time management should not cause stress; it should be a way to limit your stress by helping your day go more smoothly.
If you are getting stressed out about how you manage your time, you are probably not doing it in the way that would be best for you. It’s time to take a better look at how you are managing your time.
First consider when you are getting stressed out. Is it because you aren’t having enough time for your family? Are you falling behind in your business? There should be clues as to why you are suffering from stress, and these will help you to make plans to limit the stress.
If the stress is because you aren’t having enough time for something, it’s time to review your other activities and see if there’s a way to make more time for whatever is not getting done. Often, after working with a given schedule for a while, you can begin to identify the areas that need more and need less. Make the adjustment before you fall too far behind.
Another cause of stress can be working too hard on something you don’t enjoy. If keeping up with the accounting side of your business is causing you stress, for example, it may be time to hire a bookkeeper. That will free up more time for working on more productive items and cut back the amount of stress in your life. Of course, you have to be sure that you can afford to hire the help, but if you are earning more per productive hour than you would be paying the help, it is likely worth your while to hire someone.
If you find that you are having a lot of trouble keeping up or making a lot of mistakes, don’t let that stress you out. Remember that you are responsible for your own success, but everyone makes mistakes. Don’t let a mistake ruin your day; learn from it! Mistakes are a part of the learning process, and can help you on the road to success.
Try a little positive thinking when you start to feel stressed. Sinking into negativity is easy, but finding the positive in your problems is a big help in learning from them. You don’t need to be blindly optimistic; that’s a mistake too, but letting problems and mistakes get the best of you will slow you down and take up time.
