Are You Paying Attention to What You Want to Hear or What You Need to Hear?
One thing you need when you run a home business is a lot of advice. It’s available all over the internet, free and paid, good and bad. It matters what advice you take about your business, and that’s why you need to make sure you’re paying attention to what you need to hear about your business, not just what you want to hear.
Many people start out looking for what they want to hear about running a home business. That’s why so many people fall for scams. The scams make it all look so much easier than the people promoting hard work in their business tips. It’s a lot more fun to imagine yourself earning hundreds of dollars a day with a few hours’ effort than hearing that you may or may not succeed at all after months and months of effort. One is more realistic than the other.
I don’t at all mean that every tool promising a shortcut is a bad thing. Some are truly beneficial. Market Samurai, for example, makes my keyword research easier, and is great for keeping track of my rankings of certain keywords. It’s much faster to use a tool for that kind of thing than to do it myself. You want to hear about tools like that, and when you’re ready to speed up that part of your work, you need to hear about it.
What I don’t like are products such as article spinners. I’m a firm believer in quality over quantity and I don’t believe in the duplicate content penalty. Of course duplicate articles aren’t going to be found all together on the first page of Google no matter how well written, but that’s not a penalty. That’s just sense, and if the article is good enough to rank well, it will, regardless of wherever else you’ve allowed it to be posted. Just make sure your site posts it first if you’re putting it on your site at all.
Just think about it when you’re looking at products to buy to help your business or just reading blog or forum posts. Are you really paying attention to the things you need to hear or just what you want to hear? It can make a big difference in the success of your home business.
