13 Messy Moments

Last week for Thursday 13, I did 13 Messy Foods, and someone teased that my kids must never be clean. So this week I thought I would show how very true that can be… and there’s not a single food related mess in the lot.

I’ve long held the theory that if my kids aren’t getting really dirty regularly, then they aren’t being allowed to explore enough. You may also note that there are more messy pictures of my daughter than my son. A part of it is that she’s older, but it’s also that she is very much so the ringleader. My son has a more laid back temperment, and it shows when it comes to getting good and dirty.

Eep! Tagged!

Melonie at Workerette has tagged me. This meme is your basic “getting to know you” critter with some basic rules:

1) Link to the person who tagged you and post the rules on your blog.
2) Share 7 facts about yourself.
3) Tag 7 random people and include links to their blogs.
4) Let each person know they have been tagged and comment on their blog.

So now I guess I need to think of some interesting things about myself that aren’t too obvious. After all, I could go silly and say I run this site, work at home, I’m a mom, etc., but who’d find that at all interesting? You know that stuff if you read here much at all.

  1. Many of the jobs I’ve had I’ve gotten due to my older sisters.
Babysitting jobs were handed down to me. I worked in a pizza place with one of my sisters. I worked in a jewelry store with two of my sisters. I got into medical transcription because one of my sisters worked in it and helped me get trained. But now I have some of them considering whether or not to start websites because of my success online.
  2. The jewelry store I worked at was robbed at gunpoint when I was working there.
Massive, massive nightmares from that one. But it did teach me to think more about priorities and to keep other fears under control. After all, merely giving a speech in front of a class isn’t quite that terrifying. Still didn’t make public speaking easy, but gave me something I knew I dreaded more.
  3. I like challenging my comfort zone.
Did that really well about two years ago by applying to be an expert on a local television show. I have terrible stage fright and dread of public speaking, but that was a part of why I tried for it, just to see if I could. Didn’t get called back, and the show didn’t last long anyhow. But I tried. Been thinking on trying some video posts, but I have yet to talk myself into it and right now I know it won’t happen for at least 3 months. My inlaws will be out of town that long, and that means quiet time with no kids isn’t going to be happening.
  4. My first major in college was Physics.
Finally decided it wasn’t for me, and switched to Communications, which meant my new classmates viewed me with just a touch of awe. After all, I could cope with math, easily! Just about culture shock going from a group that loved math to one that mostly loathed it.
  5. I’m a science fiction nut.
Fortunately, so is my husband. Together we have two large bookshelves of paperback science fiction novels and two of hardcover science fiction novels.
  6. I enjoy Renaissance Faires.
Once again, fortunately so does my husband. Probably more fun when you’re single and can flirt freely, but still fun.
  7. I enjoy drawing.
Haven’t had time in ages, and it’s more comic style than lifelike, but it’s definitely fun for me.

And now the really hard part… tagging. Who, oh who shall I tag? Need to find some folks who I don’t think have done this one, at least in recent times. Let’s go with…

The Nourished Kitchen

Homesick for Home Business

Adventures of a Suburban WAHM

Work at Home Mom Revolution

Working in PJs

Moomettesgram’s Musings

The Homeschooling Mommy

Why does that last part always seem to take longer than deciding what to say about myself?
