Glad to be getting it done but dreading coping with it. Many of you know how miserable it’s going to be keeping both a 4-1/2 year old and a 22 month old away from it.

Last year we used barriers. Not pretty but they worked, and Christmas Eve after the kids went down the barriers went into the garage so everything would look good in the morning.

This year we’re using those barriers to block off part of the garage to keep the kids playing in the right area. The garage is their main play room since the bedrooms here are so tiny.

My husband thinks I can just tell the kids to leave it alone. I think he’s nuts. I can probably trust Ariel reasonably, but Gage is so much younger. I don’t want to spend all of next week telling them to leave it alone!

I think I’ll have to take a look at whether I can afford to unblock some of the stuff out there. I really don’t want the kids playing with breakable ornaments or knocking the tree entirely over. Just can’t see any other way to handle this one.
