Most stay at home moms say they love their jobs. Being there for your kids is something incredibly special. Too bad it can get incredibly boring at times.<\/p>\n
It’s not that you don’t love your kids or don’t love spending time with them. It’s the constant time with them, rarely seeing other adults. It’s the struggle to find intellectual stimulation beyond housework.<\/p>\n
Most days, being a stay at home mom isn’t boring as such. It’s often filled with activities with the kids, problems and playtime, and trying to keep the house somewhat organized. But most stay at home moms did not grow up planning to do this alone, and may have thoughts about the career they gave up.<\/p>\n
This is probably why mothers in the past would spend time on volunteer efforts. It’s a way to do something with your time that is not just at home. It’s getting out, doing things with other people, using your skills.<\/p>\n
These days there are many more options for stay at home moms. There are more options for home businesses. There are always the volunteer options. There are friends to be made online, for those times when you cannot get out with friends.<\/p>\n
It’s also important to keep up with your own interests. Take time for yourself. Read the magazines you still enjoy. Get some exercise. Indulge your hobbies. Life’s not all about your kids.<\/p>\n
If you’re planning on going back to your career at some point, take the time to keep up with changes in your field. Take night classes or online classes and build up your skills. There’s no point in falling behind completely just because you want to raise your family for the first few years. Keeping up can help you to go back to work at a level similar to the one you were at, or to pursue the education to advance it.<\/p>\n
You should also be varying your routine. Don’t do the same thing day after day. Take days to be out and about with your family. Have a day where you do a lot more of the weekly chores than usual – then they’re out of the way and you have more time for the things you want to do.<\/p>\n
Above all else, you want to make your being a stay at home mom an enjoyable experience. If you don’t like what you’re doing, your children will notice. Find ways to make it better for you and for your family. If you need to work part time, do it! If you need to pick up a new hobby, find a way.<\/p>\n
Being a stay at home mom is wonderful, but only if you know how to enjoy it. Otherwise you may resent the commitment and long hours required. A little extra thought can change your entire perspective.<\/p>\n
