Where Would You Change Baby?
People criticize mothers very freely. Apparently moms are likely to be selfish and think only of their children, not of others. There’s an interesting post over at BabyLune about this tendency to assume mothers are in the wrong.
Now, I personally wouldn’t change a baby on a restaurant table if I could at all help it, which is what the mother in the article in question did. I don’t think it’s appropriate. There is almost always an alternative. I’ve managed it in car seats when I’ve had to. It’s tough since a lot of places don’t have changing tables and some babies are scared of them. My son was.
Obviously, I don’t know what the restaurant had available for diaper changing. Maybe the restaurant did have appropriate facilities and the mother was at fault. Maybe not. But there are a lot of people who assume that what moms do for their children is taking advantage when they’re really just trying to take care of their children.
